Station # 4

Janesville Fire Station #4 is located on the east side of the city. Fire Station #4 first due district is a mix of residential and commercial properties including numerous apartment and senior living complexes. In addition, the district includes many miles of Interstate and State highways, and 20+ square miles of rural property.
Fire Station #4 was built in 1980 to address a growing population as the city expanded east and north. The land on which the station was built was donated to the city by a former Janesville fire fighter turned real estate developer. The once wide open spaces quickly filled with new streets and homes.
Fire Station #4 houses two front line pieces of equipment; a 1998 American LaFrance Rescue Engine carrying hydraulic and air rescue tools along with 750 gallons of water and a 1,500 GPM Waterous pump and; a 2007 Ford/Med Tech Paramedic Ambulance. There are five personnel assigned to Fire Station #4 on a daily basis. In addition to the front line equipment, Fire Station #4 houses the Rock County Hazardous Materials Response van and equipment trailer, and the Chevrolet Colorado pick-up assigned to the Fire Marshall.

Fire Station #4, originally built with an open dormitory, was modified in 2006 to provide separate quarters for each fire fighter. In 2005, the kitchen area was remodeled to replace deteriorating cabinetry with additional work space and a more open floor plan. Both projects were completed at bare bones cost to the taxpayers by a host of on-duty personnel using their own tools and talents. Although Fire Station #4 is nearly 30 years old, its dedicated crews take great care to keep it the “Pride of the East Side.”
