Station # 3
Janesville Fire Station #3 located at 435 N. Crosby Avenue was put into operation on February 23, 1970. It contained two apparatus bays and had sleeping quarters for ten firefighters and two officers. Nine new personnel (three on each shift) were hired to staff the station bringing the total fire department roster to 58. When the Station was constructed it sat at the edge of Janesville, with its location carved from a corn field. Residential growth was anticipated and occurred due to the opening of the new Janesville Parker High School. City population was approximately 46,000. Station #3 was remodeled and a larger apparatus bay added to accommodate longer vehicles in 2001. Today Fire Station #3 responds with a 1999 American LaFrance Rescue Pumper, staffed with three personnel. It operates as a Paramedic Engine and is the only Fire Station in our city that doesn’t house a Paramedic Ambulance. We visually show our pride in the West Side and provide coverage to a city which is still expanding to the west.
