Want to find out what a career in Fire and Emergency Services is all about?

Join the Janesville Explorers!

Supported by the Janesville Fire Department and the Janesville Local 580 Firefighters’ Union, Janesville Explorer Post 555 was chartered in 1986. Since its inception, Explorer Post 555 has been introducing members to professions within emergency services and helping them to develop the skills and abilities needed to pursue careers in the emergency services.

Janesville Explorers are:
·   Young men and young women.
·   Entering high school or between 14 and 21 years of age.
·   Interested in exploring a career in the fire service, emergency medical services, or other related areas
.

What do Janesville Explorers do?
Janesville Explorers meet 1-2 times a month to experience different aspects of emergency services professions. They receive emergency services training through lectures and practical application. Explorer Post 555 strives to use as much hands-on training as possible, as firefighting and emergency medicine are “hands-on” professions. Past training highlights include:

·         Live fire training
·         CPR certification
·         Auto Extrication
·         Ride-Alongs with Janesville Fire Department

Post members use the knowledge and experience gained at the Explorer Post to decide if the fire service or a related career path is right for them.

Where do Explorers go after the Explorer Program?
Not all explorer post members leave the post to become emergency services providers. But for those that do enter an emergency service field, their experiences in the Explorer Post have lead to internships, volunteer opportunities and career positions with area fire and EMS departments. Many continue to pursue additional education through paramedic training schools, technical college programs, 2 and 4 year college degree programs, military training and other avenues of higher education.

Does the program cost money?
$5 bi-annual dues (March/September) and $10.00 annually to cover insurance costs. ($20 per year total)

How do I join Explorer Post 555?
