Fire Fighter Edward Lichtfus
Died In The Line Of Duty on March 2nd, 1925
Janesville Fire Department's first Line of Duty Death occured March 2nd, 1925. Fire Fighters responded to a residential fire at 410 S. Locust St. While on the roof, Fire Fighter Edward Lichtfus, fell and landed on the frozen ground. He was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he hovered between life and death. A few hours after the accident, Lichtfus died. The cause of death was a double skull fracture. He also had two broken arms and internal injuries. Lichtfus was thirty nine years-old and a ten year vetran of the department.
